Before the 2023 general election, Senate President Orji Kalu says he will consider running for president if the All Progressives Congress, APC, splits its presidential formula in the southeast region.
Mr. Kalu disclosed this to the Nigerian News Agency upon his arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on the Tuesday after the Christmas and New Year holidays.
NAN reports that many pro-democracy groups backed Kalu and expressed their willingness to see him emerge as the APC’s standard-bearer in the 2023 presidential elections.
Posters of the presidential campaign of the former governor of Abia have also been seen in the main cities of the country.
While praising groups seeking support for him to run for the presidency in 2023, Kalu said they considered him worthy of bringing good government to the nation.
“I want to continue thanking the people who are putting up my posters all over Nigeria, I have not decided whether to run for the presidency or not.
“But I know that the party will bring a president who will work for the unity of the country, which is more important,” said Kalu.
