Presidency Defends 25th Feb. Election Results, Says It’s an Improvement Over Previous Polls
The Presidency Disagrees with Political Parties on Election Outcome
The February 25 Presidential election in Nigeria was heavily criticized by several political parties who claimed there were notable non-compliances with provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act. Despite this, the Presidency, through Spokesman Garba Shehu, has defended the outcome of the election, stating that the vote had witnessed significant improvement over previous ones.

Presidency Thanks Foreign Observers, Acknowledges Concerns Over Logistics
Garba Shehu in his statement thanked foreign observers like former ambassadors Mark Green and Johnnie Carson who observed the election under the auspices of the National Democratic Institute/International Republican Institute Election Observation Missions. However, he pointed out that the US State Department, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, ECOWAS, and the African Union congratulated President-elect Bola Tinubu of the governing All Progressives Congress on his victory.

Presidency Acknowledges Faults, But Affirms Nigeria’s Democracy Has Been Consolidated
Shehu admitted there were some delays and technical faults during the election but stated that, in general, the 2022 Electoral Act had strengthened the integrity of the election, and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System had tackled multiple votes, ghost votes, and unauthorised votes to prevent fraud.

Presidency Stresses The Competitive Nature of The Election
The Spokesman also stressed that Nigeria’s election was the most competitive and biggest presidential election in its history. Therefore, he believed the election victory was well deserved by the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Bola Tinubu. Furthermore, he highlighted that the election marked progress despite several negative reactions to the outcome.
Presidency sees APC Victory as a Mandate to Continue in Power
The Presidency believes that Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election as well as the APC’s nationwide wave of support in the National Assembly results constituted a clear mandate for the party to hold power for another four years.
Presidency Calls for Sustained Peace as Nation Moves Forward
The Presidency emphasized that despite the shortcomings in the election, the progress made should be celebrated. Therefore, true friends of Nigeria must join hands with the Nigeria people to promote continued peace.
