Police repel IPOB attack on Unwana-Afikpo Division, kill 1 attacker

Ebonyi Police Command repelled an attack on Sunday by suspected IPOB insurgents on its divisional headquarters in Unwana, in the Afikpo northern local government area of ​​the state.

Command spokesman DSP Loveth Odah told Abakaliki that police killed one of the gunmen and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other implicated items when the thugs attacked the station on Sunday.

“At 3:00 am today, October 24, 2021, as yet unidentified gunmen, numbering approximately 35, attacked the headquarters of the Unwana division in the Afikpo North State local government area. from Ebonyi.

“The attackers sporadically fired at the police on duty, who immediately repelled the attack.

“In the ensuing shootout, one of the thugs was killed and two AK 47 rifles and other compromising items were recovered.

“Other suspects escaped with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, a police inspector attached to the division was seriously injured. The operational police vehicles are intact.

“The investigation revealed that the deceased suspect was on the list of people wanted by the police for various attacks on police stations.

“One of the AK-47 rifles recovered was identified as the rifle stolen from the Ohaukwu Police Division earlier this month.

“Meanwhile, Ebonyi Police Commissioner, State Command, Mr. Aliyu Garba, embarked on an on-site assessment of the division and also ordered a manhunt against the fleeing thugs.

“The PC calls on the law-abiding citizens of the state to quickly provide useful information to uncover the true identities of fleeing gang members,” she said.
