By Ikechukwu Iweajunwa

Imo Police Commissioner Abutu Yaro said the police had carried out a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Uguchi Unachukwu, who was allegedly killed on May 31 in Imo.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the deceased was shot dead near Sam Mbakwe airport during a search while on a plane back to Germany.

He was reportedly killed in front of his wife and two children by men in military uniform.

The police commissioner, in a statement signed by command spokesperson SP Bala Alkana, said he would stop at nothing to unravel the incident.

“On May 31, 2021 around 8:04 am, the deceased was reportedly shot dead by soldiers.

“The preliminary investigation found that staff reported the deceased’s vehicle and told the driver to park for a search, but the driver, who initially slowed down, suddenly took off.

“Suspicious of the occupants of the vehicle, military personnel made efforts to demobilize the vehicle and when the vehicle finally stopped, officers told the occupants to exit.

“It was at this point that a passenger in the car mentioned that the man driving the vehicle was her husband and that he was in a hurry to catch a flight.

“He was however rushed to hospital by the Air Force team for medical treatment where the doctors on duty made frantic efforts to stabilize him, but he later died.

“The Imo Police Command has opened an investigation into the case, the commissioner called for calm and assured the family and friends of the deceased that nothing will be overlooked to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death. NOPE)
