By Mohammed Tijjani

Kaduna State Police Command said it had arrested five suspects for illegal possession of firearms.

The command’s public relations officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the arrest in a statement released in Kaduna on Sunday.

Jalige said their arrests followed a report received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kubacha.

He said the DPO acted on the basis of information received on July 24 that the suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, were engaged in unhealthy activities in Kenyi village, Kagarko local government area, in the state.

The police spokesperson said the suspects and some villagers threatened the peaceful coexistence of the population on disputed land.

He said the situation had deteriorated to a boiling point, leading one of the warring parties to threaten to kill their opponents with dangerous weapons.

“Upon receipt of the information, the DPO immediately mobilized on the scene, quickly avoided what would have been a tragedy and arrested the five suspects, all from the village of Kenyi.

“Items recovered from the suspects included an AK-47 rifle loaded with 29 7.62 x 39 mm rounds. ammunition and a 9 x 18 mm. Makarov pistol, loaded with seven 9mm live ammunition cartridges, ”he said.

Jalige added that the swift response from police officers not only prevented “the foreseeable calamity, but also restored normalcy to the community.”

He said the investigation revealed the circumstances behind the crash and the source of the illegal guns.

Police spokesman quoted state police commissioner Umar Muri as urging communities in the state to always embrace dialogue as an alternative dispute resolution rather than violence that could lead to consequences. disastrous.

“The commissioner also pledged to impartially investigate the incident and prosecute all those found guilty, in order to deter others,” Jalige said. (NAN) ()
