Edo Police debunked reports on social media on Monday that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ehor Division, CSP Benjamin Benafa, was arrested over kidnapping issues.

Social media reported that the DPD was arrested by a special anti-kidnapping team from the Office of the Inspector General of Police.

Police spokesman in Edo, SP Kontongs Bello, said in a statement that the news was malicious, malicious, fabricated and deceptive.

“To keep things clear, there is no such unit called the ‘Anti-Kidnap Task Force’ in the IGP police office, Abuja.

“The report, which is already going viral on various social networks and platforms, is totally the work of troublemakers to tarnish the image of the force and incite the general public to oppose the police, in particular the command of the force. ‘Edo.

“Edo Command Police Commissioner CP Phillips Ogbadu therefore calls on the good people of the state and its residents to ignore the report and go about their rightful business.

“It is obvious that criminal elements have already noticed that Ehor is no longer profitable for them and have decided to release the false report.

“The report is intended to distract from the police and the general public who assist the police with information about their criminal activities,” he said.

SP Bello added that the DPD reported to the division on July 2 and took up his duties and responsibilities on July 3.

He also said that the DPO was instrumental in rescuing nine kidnapped passengers from an 18-seater bus on their way from Auchi to Benin on July 4.

“The officer is currently on duty in Ehor and has not been arrested as the report on social media claims,” he said.

Bello said the police commissioner ordered a full-scale investigation into the case with the aim of convicting the perpetrators of the false report. (NAA)
