Plateau State Governorship Election: PDP Candidate Wins
PDP Candidate Emerges Winner
Caleb Mutfwang, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emerged as the winner of the Plateau State governorship election held on March 9th, 2019.
INEC Announces Results
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed the results of the election which showed that Mr. Mutfwang had the highest votes, beating Nentawe Yilwatda, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
PDP Takes Early Lead
The PDP candidate was reported to have taken an early lead as of 11am when INEC resumed collations of results from the 17 local government areas of the state.
PDP Returns to Power
Following the collation of results from the 17 local government areas of the state, the Returning Officer for the governorship election in the state, Professor Idris Amali, declared Caleb Mutfwang the winner of the election at exactly 3:33 pm on March 11th, 2019.
PDP Regains Control of Plateau State
The PDP had been in power in Plateau State since 1999 before losing to the APC in 2015 when Simon Lalong won the governorship election. With this recent victory, the PDP has regained control of the state.
Returning Officer Announces Results
The returning officer announced, “I’m going to declare the results that I have here. There are 18 contestants. That Caleb Manesah Mutfwang of The PDP having satisfied the required by the law is hereby returned and declared the winner.”
PDP Dominates Local Government Areas
The PDP won several local government areas in the state, including Riyom, Jos South, Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Mikang, Langtang South, Langtang North, Bokkos, Quaapan, and Mangu.
