Physiotherapist tasks Nigerians on health consciousness, warns against self medication

The Medical Director with Menthand Physiotherapy and wellness Clinic, Dr Adesokan Oluwatobi, has

urged Nigerians to be cautious towards presenting non communicable related diseases and to avoid self medications.

Oluwatobi gave the advice on Tuesday during a medical outreach to commemorate the Physiotherapy Day held Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The theme is: ‘Physiotherapy is key to your recovery from COVID-19’ with the sub theme: ‘Not neglecting other ailment and comorbidity’.

He said ongoing reports show that following the recent COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of people have neglected hospitals, resorting to self medications and other alternatives.

According to him, it is important for everyone to be conscious about their well being to prevent deaths and from non-COVID ailments.

“A lot people are focusing on COVID-19 not knowing that there are other illnesses that are silent killers as many do not visit hospitals for medical check up.

” That is why we brought the medical outreach to the doorstep of people in this area. There is free consultation and check up of blood sugar as well as treatment on musculoskeletal ailment.

” The reason for the outreach is to sensitise Nigerians to the need for healthy lifestyle and give medical advice and referrals or recommend home programme if need arises,” Oluwatobi said.

He said the medical team attended to about 95 people in the area, adding that a lot still needs to be done.

Oluwatobi, however, advised Nigerians to ensure they engage in more physical activities and medical check up, adding that exercise will add life to ones years.

News Agency of Nigeria , reports that World Physiotherapy Day is observed on Sept. 8 each year.

Physiotherapy day strives to create awareness about the significant role physiotherapists play in keeping people well and fit.

This day is also used as an opportunity to thank physiotherapists all across the world for their contribution to the medical field.

Physiotherapy or physical therapy is expertise in movement and exercise, which can help people fight pain, injury, disorder and more.
