Philippine troops killed six suspected rebels in a clash on Thursday in the southern province of Sultan Kudarat, the military said.
In a report, the army said the clashes began around 5:30 a.m. local time as an army battalion carried out a security operation in the town of Bagumbayan, where a dozen suspected gunmen were hiding.
The report added that the troops recovered six bodies from the scene of the clash after 24 minutes of fighting. They also recovered assault rifles, including three M-16 rifles and one AK47 rifle, and assorted ammunition.
The fighting broke out a day after army troops killed six rebels in a military assault on a rebel hideout in Northern Samar province on Wednesday. ■
