Peter Obi challenges Bola Tinubu’s Presidency win
Obi’s Reaction to the Presidential Election Result
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that he is not challenging Bola Tinubu’s victory but the process that led to his declaration as President-elect.

INEC‘s Court Ruling Ignored
After INEC declared Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election held in February 2021, Obi challenged the result in court citing irregularities. The court granted Obi access to sensitive materials used in the election, but the LP accused INEC of denying Obi’s lawyers access despite the court’s ruling.

Scrutiny of Public Institution
Obi commented that INEC, being a public institution, should always subject itself to scrutiny from Nigerians. He stated that he only requested access to materials used by INEC for the election, and he wasn’t asking for a change in the result of the election. Obi further stated that he wasn’t challenging the outcome but the process leading to the outcome, which is important.

The Fundamental Significance of the Election Process
According to Obi, the process leading to office is more important than what officeholders do after assuming their positions. Stating that there is a process of arriving at every destination and the process is fundamental, Obi posits that challenging the process leading to the outcome is necessary to stop the rascality witnessed during the election.
