PENGASSAN Don Declare Nationwide Strike Over Dangote Refinery Matter

Abuja, Nigeria – E be like say wahala don show face for Dangote Refinery as PENGASSAN, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, don declare nationwide strike. Dis one come after dem sack over 800 workers wey join the association. Na on Saturday, dem call emergency meeting, and dem decide say dem go withdraw services all over di country from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

PENGASSAN no dey smile because dem accuse Dangote Refinery say dem dey violate Nigerian labour laws, di Constitution, and any international convention wey dem fit find. Lumumba Okugbawa, di General Secretary of di union, talk say dis dismissal na direct attack on workers’ rights and e dey show say dem no respect for organised labour at all. As dem see 800 workers comot, dem claim say di refinery don replace dem with roughly 2,000 foreign workers, wey dey from India, with some of dem living worse conditions. E no sweet at all!

“No man or company, no matter how dem dey shine, fit pass the law,” Okugbawa yan. “Dis thing wey happen go make many families dey suffer, na because dem dey sack di Nigerians wey sabi di work.” PENGASSAN don declare say if no be safety of people and property, nobody go fit run any operations around based on di strike. Even gas supply to di refinery go stop immediately.

Dem don order all members for field locations to down tools, meaning say control room operations, panel operations, and even outfield personnel go halt work. Dem even add say for those wey dey office go down tools from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Wetin dey happen now? Di Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingya.di, don beg PENGASSAN make dem reconsider di strike. He talk say his Ministry don reach out to both PENGASSAN and Dangote management for emergency meeting on how to settle di matter without any wahala. E dey hope say dem go use peaceful way to resolve di issue.

“Nigerians gatz know di dangers wey dey come from allowing private companies to dey flout labour laws like say dem no fit touch them. An injury to one na injury to all,” di union leader declare before him. Dis statement fit shake di oil and gas sector, especially with di bigger picture of national interest on di line if dis strike enter full gear.
