Parents laud Kaduna State Govt. for foreign scholarship programme

  Some parents in Kaduna State have commended the State Government s foreign scholarship programme which provides opportunity for intelligent indigent children to study in foreign countries The parents made the commendation in separate interviews with the Nigeria News Agency in Kaduna on Saturday when they received their children who are on holiday from Cuba The children six of them five girls and a boy were in their second year in Cuba studying Medicine under the state s undergraduate foreign scholarship programme I never dreamt that any of my children would study outside Nigeria but thanks to Kaduna State Government my child Fatima Jumare is studying medicine in Cuba Jumamre said that his daughter was selected among many that applied for the scholarship based on her good performance adding that the screening process was very transparent and based on merit I will never have been able to send my child to foreign university but now I am a proud parent Also Jame Gwani said that her daughter s dream was to be a doctor adding that the dream was becoming a reality courtesy of Kaduna State Foreign Scholarship Programme She applied sat for the examination and the interview was selected with no influence from anywhere except her performance because the government insisted on competence and merit I am glad that she is doing very well so far We really thank the state government for this life changing opportunity Gwani said One of the students Abubakar Aliyu who thanked the state government for the gesture promised not to disappoint the confidence the government reposed on them to excel We are studying very hard My Grade Point Average GPA for first semester was 4 5 and I studied harder to make 5 0 in the second semester Rabi Sa idu one of the students also said I have not seen my GPA for second semester but I made 4 75 in first semester I assure you we will make the best of this opportunity graduate and return home to help humanity she told NAN The Executive Director Kaduna Scholarship Board Hajiya Jummai Dikko told NAN that the state government had paid all their fees and other expenses for the duration of the study amounting to more than N200 million each Dikko equally disclosed that another set of five beneficiaries also from indigent families have been selected to also study medicine in Cuba She commended the students for performing beyond expectation and expressed confidence that the state would benefit from the investment in the students The Director of Operations in the board Malam Iliya Mohammed said that there were more than 70 undergraduate students studying in different countries under the state s foreign scholarship Mohammed added that 90 per cent of them were studying medicine

The children, six of them, five girls and a boy, were in their second year in Cuba, studying Medicine, under the state’s undergraduate foreign scholarship programme.

“I never dreamt that any of my children would study outside Nigeria, but thanks to Kaduna State Government, my child, Fatima Jumare, is studying medicine in Cuba.


Jumamre said that his daughter was selected among many that applied for the scholarship, based on her good performance, adding that the screening process was very transparent and based on merit.


“I will never have been able to send my child to foreign university, but now I am a proud parent.

Also, Jame Gwani, said that her daughter’s dream was to be a doctor, adding that the dream was becoming a reality, courtesy of Kaduna State Foreign Scholarship Programme.

“She applied, sat for the examination and the interview, was selected with no influence from anywhere, except her performance because the government insisted on competence and merit.

“I am glad that she is doing very well so far. We really thank the state government for this life changing opportunity, ” Gwani said.

One of the students, Abubakar Aliyu, who thanked the state government for the gesture promised not to disappoint the confidence the government reposed on them to excel.

Grade Point Average

“We are studying very hard. My Grade Point Average (GPA) for first semester was 4.5 and I studied harder to make 5.0 in the second semester.”

Rabi Sa’idu, one of the students, also said: “I have not seen my GPA for second semester, but I made 4.75 in first semester.

“I assure you, we will make the best of this opportunity, graduate and return home to help humanity,” she told NAN.

Executive Director

The Executive Director, Kaduna Scholarship Board, Hajiya Jummai Dikko, told NAN that the state government had paid all their fees and other expenses for the duration of the study, amounting to more than N200 million each.

Dikko equally disclosed that another set of five beneficiaries, also from indigent families have been selected to also study medicine in Cuba.

She commended the students for performing beyond expectation and expressed confidence that the state would benefit from the investment in the students.

The Director of Operations in the board, Malam Iliya Mohammed, said that there were more than 70 undergraduate students, studying in different countries under the state’s foreign scholarship.

Mohammed added that 90 per cent of them were studying medicine.
