Parents Don Dey Spoil Waec for Pikin Dem Sake of Malpractice

Abuja, Nigeria – Na wah! Examination malpractices for Nigeria don reach new level of wahala. Na the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) dem dey report say parents don turn to number one suspect when e come to cheating during exams. E no be small thing, and you fit imagine say dem say about 80 percent of all the wahala wey happen for 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) na parents dem cause.

Chairman of JAMB Special Committee on Examination Infractions, Dr. Jake Epelle, come spill the tea during interview for Channels Television’s Politics Today. He talk say na parents wey dey do everything possible to make sure say their pikin get better marks, even if dem no fit earn am. E be like say dem no sabi say na bad habit wey go return to bite dem!

According to Epelle, despite JAMB use Computer-Based Test technology since, dem still dey battle serious issues of impersonation and credential forgery. E no be joke as dem don spend plenty money on security tech to stop all this bad bad behaviour from candidates.

But the wahala wey dem find for 2025 exam no be small. Epelle come show say dem document 4,251 cases of “finger blending,” which na when person dey manipulate biometric checks, plus 190 cases of AI-assisted impersonation. Abeg, wetin be dis? Even AI don enter the matter!

Plus, dem catch 1,878 fake disability claims, forged credentials, and plenty more wahala wey dey show say those wey suppose dey on their own don turn to syndicates wey dey collude with students. Na serious matter wey concern everybody.

Omo, as if that one no enough, JAMB committee chair warn say if we no handle this technology way dey cause problem well, the integrity of our exams dey in serious danger. He talk say Naija fit’t dey rely on foreign solutions alone to safeguard our exams. Na local solutions we need, because dem know our wahala pass anybody.

“Technology dey glitch sometimes, we need something wey go fit work for our environment,” he add. As the committee dey call for new measures like AI-powered biometric tools and monitoring systems, dem go need real fire for the fight against this yawa.

For those wey no sabi, this UTME na the main door to enter universities for Nigeria. If na parents dey spoil am for dem pikin, wetin go happen to our future leaders? Dem no fit carry wahala enter university o! As JAMB dey push for reforms, dem also dey think of ways to hold parents accountable for their pikin dem behaviour.

Na now dem come dey propose say if pikin under 18 dey involved, make dem give am rehabilitation instead of punishment. Better! This matter dey urgent because if we no correct am, wahala for our education system go continue. We fit all agree say examination malpractice go dey erode merit and trust, and we go lose way for matter of education.

So as we dey follow this story, make we all remember say integrity na value wey we fit’t ignore. Make we shine our eye as we dey support reforms wey go restore sanity to our education system!
