The Oyo State Police Command confirmed on Sunday the murder of a popular Ibadan radio presenter, Mr. Titus Badejo, by unknown gunmen.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident in a text message to the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Ibadan.

NAN learned that Badejo, a former presenter of Naija FM Ibadan, was murdered by unknown gunmen on Saturday outside Club 407 in the Oluyole neighborhood of Ibadan at around 11:30 p.m.

The PPRO said investigations were underway to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend the attackers.

“Around 7:30 am, Sunday June 20, 2021, Damilola Afolabi ‘m’, manager of Club 407, Oluyole Ibadan, reported to the divisional police headquarters in Oluyole that on Saturday June 19, 2021, a certain Titus Badejo, journalist and independent disc jockey with the club, was shot dead outside the club’s premises by unknown assailants.

“However, extensive investigations are underway to elucidate the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend the attackers. Verifiable updates would be provided as soon as possible,” Osifeso said in the text.

A source, who requested anonymity, told NAN that the deceased, commonly known as “Ejanla” which means “Big fish” in English, had been at the club with friends since 9:00 p.m.

“As he was leaving with his friends in his car around 11:30 pm, two masked men on motorcycles suddenly stopped his car, brandishing a gun and asking them all to lie down.

“He was the only one shot dead by the armed men, who left immediately without taking anything or touching the other occupants of the car,” the source said.

NAN understood that his corpse had since been deposited in the mortuary of Adeoyo Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan. (NAA)
