A total of 28 Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) athletes and officials arrived in Tokyo around 4 p.m. Nigerian time.

Chika Chukwumerije, a member of the Nigerian Taekwondo Federation, who spoke to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) from Tokyo, said the team had to wait four hours to observe the necessary protocols before they were admitted to the Kizarazu camp.

“In addition, COVID-19 tests were carried out and we also had to wait for the results. It was very stressful, but luckily we are now in Kizarazu.

“The mayor of the town came to welcome us and it was nice to have this kind of welcome.

“Our up-front team that was here earlier did a great job organizing the food for us.

“We already have Nigerian dishes waiting for us when we arrive. So it was 5 a.m. Tokyo time and we were all settled into our rooms.

“It looks like a closed camp and we can’t really mix with others due to the pandemic. We just have to go eat and train and come back, ”he added.
