The governor called on motorists to exercise patience and caution as they passed through the corridor.

“We have started construction of a bridge and interchange at Koka Junction, Asaba. We hope to finish it within a year.

“We will also intensify the construction of the Ughelli-Asaba road dualisation to ensure the completion of the Ogwashi-Uku section in Asaba by April 2022,” he said.

Okowa thanked Corps Marshal Dr Boboye Oyeyemi for raising awareness and making sure no one is sleeping on deck during Christmas time.

He called on stakeholders to sensitize their members to the need to maintain a safe speed.

“I would like to thank the Corps Marshal for organizing this event in Delta; I have to thank him for the awareness and awareness which has contributed enormously to ensuring safety on our roads.

“When you feel like you are tired, don’t drive; it is important that we realize that life matters because if you are not careful and someone dies because of your carelessness it is not good enough.

“We will continue to do our best to keep our roads safe during the smoldering months and beyond.

Previously, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, the Zone 5 Zone Commander’s headquarters, said Delta’s choice for the national campaign was recognition of the state’s contribution to road safety in the country.

“The Governor’s gift of the world-class inspection training school at Owa-Alero will forever be indelible in the history of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

“The institution is one of the best road safety training centers in Africa and the facility has generally improved the public image and performance appraisal of the FRSC.

“The Ember Months Road Safety Campaign is a concept deliberately designed to improve traffic management and control in accordance with the FRSC statutory mandate and global best practices,”

Kumapayi said.

He said speeding remained the leading cause of traffic accidents and highway fatalities.

“To combat the threat of speeding and ensure a proper road use experience, the FRSC is committed to achieving the strategic goal of reducing road accidents by 15% and fatalities by 20%” , Kumapayi said.
