Okada rider remanded for alleged robbery

On Friday, a Makurdi magistrates court ordered the remand of Philip Mpunga, a commercial motorcycle operator, from Old Otukpo Makurdi road, for alleged armed robbery.


Sonia Yaikyur
The Magistrate, Ms. Sonia Yaikyur, did not take the defendant’s statement due to lack of Jurisdiction.

Makurdi Correctional Center
He ordered that the accused person be held in the Makurdi Correctional Center while the court awaited legal advice.

Yaikyur adjourned the case until May 19 to receive further citations.
Police Prosecutor Insp
Police Prosecutor Insp. James Ewache told the court that the case was reported to Division A Police Station by Veronica Hembafan of 2 Suzan Odua Street, former GRA Makurdi, Benue, on April 16 .
GRA Makurdi
Ewache said that the complainant reported that she closed her business center in Oladam, former GRA Makurdi, and was on her way home when the defendant followed her.
The defendant, armed with a pistol, attacked her, beat her and stole her itel phone valued at N25,500 and in the process sustained injuries to her elbow.
The complainant raised the alarm while her relatives and neighbors came to her aid and apprehended the suspect.
During the police investigation, the suspect’s pistol and itel phone were recovered as evidence.
The prosecutor said the investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked the court to mention another date.
Theft and Firearms Special Provision Act
He said the offense was in contravention of section 1 (1) (2) (a) (b) of the Theft and Firearms Special Provision Act 2004.
