Ohaneze Ndigbo Backs Sanwo-Olu For Lagos Governor Re-Election
The Ohaneze Ndigbo in Lagos, an Igbo cultural organization, has wholeheartedly declared its support for the re-election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the current Governor of Lagos State.
Sunday Ossai, the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, made this announcement during a media briefing held on Thursday in Ikeja city, concerning the governorship elections coming up on March 11th.
Ossai promised that Ohaneze Ndigbo would mobilize its people to vote for the reelection of the Governor, owing to his immense and exemplary achievements during his current term.
He also denounced and distanced the group from statement calling for the Governor’s resignation.
According to Ossai, such a statement did not come from the official body or Lagos chapter of Ohaneze, and should be totally disregarded.
The expiration of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s tenure has become a topic of major discussions, following the recent presidential election in the state, where candidate Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) won convincingly over All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State Governor and strong presence in the state, lost in his stronghold.
Ossai was not alone in his show of support.
Jane Okoro, the Woman Leader of the group, with the support of Oladotun Hassan, President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, strongly urged Lagos’ Igbo population to deliver on behalf of the incumbent Governor.
She urged women in the 57 LGAs and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to mobilize and support Sanwo-Olu’s reelection, while also imploring that their children not be coerced or manipulated into being political thugs.
With such widespread encouragement, the current Governor appears to have set the stage for a favorable outcome come the much-anticipated March 11th elections.
And, this assurance is not without basis as Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated kindness to Ohaneze Ndigbo, enabling them to successfully carry out their business activities without bias or obstruction.
It is therefore befitting of the organization to return the favor and ensure that the Governor is re-elected.
In conclusion, Ossai reassured that the Igbo would be reliable in voting for Sanwo-Olu and ensure his victory.
