Ohanaeze Ndigbo Show Support for Sanwo-Olu Re-Election
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a Nigerian socio-cultural organisation, in Lagos have expressed their support for the re-election of the incumbent Lagos Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu. On Thursday, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Sunday Ossai, declared their support for the Governor during a joint media briefing on the preparations for the upcoming Lagos governorship elections.

According to Ossai, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo support for Sanwo-Olu was derived from his efforts to fulfil campaign promises to the group’s members.

Ossai also denounced an earlier statement credited to one Okechukwu Isiguzoro calling for the Governor’s resignation.

He reaffirmed that the statement did not come from the official body of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In expressing their gratitude to the Governor, the Women Leader of the group, Jane Okoro, pledged to mobilise all the women structures in Lagos to lend their support to the governor’s upcoming re-election bid.
Also, the President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, Oladotun Hassan appealed to the Igbo people in Lagos to disregard unfounded allegations against the Governor, reaffirming that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo will strongly support Sanwo-Olu for as long as constituted laws allow it.
On the 7th of February, Peter Obi of the Labour Party won the presidential elections in Lagos, ousting Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, who had been the state’s preferred candidate.
This has raised a question on the fate of Sanwo-Olu, who was hoping to secure Tinubu’s endorsement.
However, the group are certain of Sanwo-Olu’s prospective victory comeMarch 11 polls.
They have committed to motivate and ensure that its people will vote massively.
