Oduwole wins gold for team Lagos in scrabble
Olatunde Oduwole
The Lagos team, yesterday, won a gold medal through Olatunde Oduwole in the Scrabble Masters singles event at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival.

The venue was the Stephen Keshi Stadium Multi-Purpose Hall, Asaba.

Lagos State Monopoly and Scrabble Association coach Akinfemisoye Ayomiposi called Oduwole’s gold medal “the most prestigious” in the games, adding that he knew his player will be a star to be reckoned with in the festival.

Oduwole was confident of winning a gold medal at the festival, having taken fourth place in Benin.
He said: “The aura was not there for me at Edo 2020, but with renewed vigor and determination, I was hopeful that Delta 2021 would be a different ballgame,” the champion told reporters amid cheers.
He said that scrabble requires each player to take their game seriously from the preparation level “and this is what I did, promising that I would not let Lagos down this time,” he said.
Oduwole, a member of the Nigerian team at the international championships, revealed that the Lagos team should expect more medals as the scrabble event at the festival progresses.
“I will be competing in the doubles event with Wale Fashina, also in the team event.
I hope to win gold medals in these events,” said Oduwole.
Coach Ayomiposi said his scrabble team, made up of nine male and three female players, would compete in 12 events at the 2021 Delta National Sports Festival.
