Nwokocha qualifies for the women’s 200m semi-finals

By Olawale Alabi

Nigerian team Grace Nwokocha, on Monday in Tokyo, at the current 2020 Olympic Games, qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 200 meters.

Nwokocha clocked a personal best 22.47 seconds to finish third in Round 1 of the event and win one of the automatic tickets to the semi-finals.

Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou won the round with 22.30, while Bahamas Shaunae Miller-Uibo finished second with 22.40.

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that the 20-year-old Nigerian reached the semi-finals in the women’s 100m, where she ran an 11.07 on Sunday.

It only helped her to place fifth in Semi-Final 3, a result that was not enough for her to advance to the final which was contested later in the day.

But that was after she set another personal best at 11:00 am to place third in round 5 on Saturday in the first round of the event to advance to the semi-finals.

NAN reports that the women’s 200m semi-finals are scheduled for later Monday, while the final is scheduled for Tuesday. (NAA)
