Edo dispelled rumors that the right to host the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) labeled “ Edo 2020 ” has been taken from the state.

Musa Ebomhiana, project manager, media and communication subcommittee for the games, revealed this in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) on Tuesday in Benin City.

He stressed that not only will the state host the rest of the country from April 4 to 14, but the scheduled date remains sacrosanct.

“I can tell you with authority that Edo remains the host and the date has remained as previously announced, from April 4 to 14, it was expected that the States will start arriving for the festival from April 2.

“The president of the LOC, who happens to be the deputy governor of Edo, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, this morning on the rumor that the matches could be taken to Abuja.

“The Minister reaffirmed Edo’s right to host Edo and promised that financial assistance from the federal government would come.

“I can tell you that the state will receive this fund by tomorrow (Wednesday),” the minister said.

NAN also reports that recently a letter signed by Peter Nelson, the secretary of the main organizing committee of the sports festival and entitled: “ESTIMATED DATE FOR THE 20TH NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL” has been sent to each association.

It read in part: “In view of the above, I am invited to inform you that the 20th NSF is now scheduled for April 2-15, 2021.

“The details are: Opening of the Games Village – April 2-3, 2021; Opening ceremony scheduled for April 4, 2021; the closing ceremony would take place on April 14, 2021 while the closure of the Games village would take place on April 15, 2021. “

It is recalled that the festival had suffered several postponements in the past due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. (NOPE)
