NPFL: Plateau Utd humble Warri Wolves 2-0 to harvest maximum points

By Polycarp Auta

On Sunday, Plateau United football club Jos scored the maximum of three points in their 2-0 home win over Warri Wolves in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

United’s Sunday Anthony and Zulkifilu Mohammad scored both second-half goals to seal the victory, following a disappointing goalless draw in the first half at the new Jos International Stadium.

Speaking shortly after the game, Plateau United head coach Abdu Maikaba said that despite some changes in the squad, the boys played really well because they know what the squad wanted.

He said the changes he made to their starting XI were necessary, having lost to Nasarawa United at Lafia last week.

“We won the game, which is very important to us. We will face the Jigawa Golden Stars on Wednesday or Thursday, in the Aiteo Cup, then we will come to welcome Enyimba from Aba to the NPFL.

“Winning is very important for us because we’re going to be standing somewhere at the end and our goal is to play the continental tournament next season,” said Maikaba.

For his part, Ortega Deniran, head coach of Warri Wolves, expressed his sadness at losing the game, but promised to do better in their next games. (NAA)
