Nollywood dey mourn as one of our own, Chief Kanran, don waka go join ancestors. The veteran actor, real name Olusegun Akinremi, pass away for age 70 on Friday morning, August 15, 2025. Na Seun Oloketuyi, wey be film producer and close padi of the legend, make this sad announcement for him Instagram page.
“Popular actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, died Friday morning,” Na wetin Oloketuyi talk. E be like say everybody dey feel the loss as Chief Kanran no be ordinary actor. Dis man sabi act like say na him dey carry our drama for head! His unique style and charm no fit translate for wetin dem go say about him; e touch everybody wey don watch him films for Yoruba film industry.
From small pikin, Chief Kanran dey act for stage. E start him career since 1975, na im make him name dey shine like disco ball for Nollywood. Wetin we go talk about him roles for different soap operas? The man fit make you laugh, cry, and even reason deep about life just with him performances.
Before him death, Chief Kanran don collect plenty accolades, and him craft na reason why him dey reign supreme for hearts of many fans. Remember say him get role wey everybody sabi – as General Philips for the classic Megafortune soap opera. Yes, we fit say na him hand dey touch why some of these stories still dey relevant today.
