City, Nigeria — Nnamdi Kanu, di big man wey dey lead di Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), don again shout say di terrorism trial wey im dey face na pure nonsense. E tok say di charges dem no dey even exist for di first place, na wetin he yarn for court this past Monday.
As di trial dey unfold like classic Nigerian soap opera, Kanu dey face off with Justice James Omotosho. Dis judge dey try to make sense of di matter; as Kanu dey defend imsef, e dey see say na only three days remain for dem to finish dis whole saga.
Adegboyega Awomolo, di lawyer representing di federal government, don already remind di court say di six days we dem give Kanu don enter di third day. Kanu, no wan gree for wahala, don tell di court say e get time to check im case file, and e conclude say no charge dey against am.
“E no get any extant law for dis kontri wey go support di charges wey dem put for my head,” Kanu talk sharply, like person wey don see di light. E dey ask di judge make e show am di law wey dey support di claims wey federal government dey bring.
As Kanu, dey try continue im speech, Justice Omotosho cut him short. E comot lawyer cap, put on im teacher cap as e go school Kanu on court procedures. Omotosho explain say, after di prosecution don finish dem side, di defendant get three options. Na no case submission, enter defense, or just rely on di prosecution side. E no wan make Kanu fall hand.
Kanu still dey insist say no charge dey exist against am, and im dey reason say dem dey keep am down with one type of fraudulent charge wey di Supreme Court don already talk say e no supposed happen. E dey plead say make dem release am or at least grant am bail because, according to am, im no dey feel okay.
Awomolo, di federal lawyer, no wan gree for wahala too, e point out say wetin Kanu talk mean say he don choose to rely on di prosecution side, and dat one fit mean say di case fit conclude soon. Omotosho try explain say Kanu no actually say im no get defense, but rather, he dey argue say di charges no dey valid.
Di judge dey take am like small pikin wey lack experience; e appeal say make Kanu go meet proper lawyers wey sabi criminal cases wella. “Na my duty to make sure say you understand wetin dey happen here o, since you no get lawyer right now,” Omotosho talk with concern.
In di end, di judge don give Kanu di chance to consult sabi lawyers wey fit help am for dis matter. E don adjourn di case until November 4, 5, and 6, 2025, so dat Kanu fit consider im options properly. As e stand now, dem go wait with bated breath to see wetin go shelle next.
