Lagos, Nigeria – A wahala don burst again for education sector as Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) don enter ground with full vibe to support striking members of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). On Monday, NLC president, Joe Ajaero, carry mouth come talk say government dey wrong for their ‘No Work, No Pay’ rule.
Ajaero drop am clear say the ongoing ASUU strike no be joke, e na the direct result of government dey disobey agreements wey dem don agree on before. He use mouth draw attention to the fact say the two-week warning strike no suppose happen if government don follow through on their end of the bargain.
“Rather than dey engage in talk wey go resolve this matter, dem just dey threaten with this No Work, No Pay palava,” Ajaero yarn like say e dey vex. “Na government suppose hold themselves responsible, no be the lecturers. We gree say lecturers wey dey teach, but e go hard if dem no fit do am because government no keep to dem promise.”
ASUU no dey laugh but dem fit reason am well, because the matter dey affect everybody for Nigeria. Ajaero come make we sabi say this no be just ASUU wahala; e dey reflect bigger issue for our society. Children of the rich dey go private school and study abroad, while children of the poor dey struggle for public schools wey dey suffer. E no suppose be so wahala.
“For dis country wey wan move forward, we need educated people. But if we no fit get quality education, na only the rich go dey chop am. Wetin happen to equality?” Ajaero dey ask, as e call for action from all sides.
In case you dey wonder, dis two-week warning strike come after ASUU don give government 14 days ultimatum wey don pass like night rain. Now dem don disrupt exam for some schools, and di Minister of Education don use No Work, No Pay plan on lecturers wey no show face. Some people go fit say, wetin dey happen wey dem no fit just agree and move forward?
Meanwhile, for secondary matter, we hear Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, dey work with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to tackle disaster wey dey waka everywhere. Dis one come during International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction wey dem hold for Abuja. Lawal dey push say “Fund Resilience, Not Disaster” – recall say we no dey waste money on wahala but rather build strength to face dem!
Governor Lawal come talk say Zamfara dey face all kinds of troubles – whether na fire, flooding, or insecurity. He use di chance to boost NEMA plan wey dem launch to manage disasters better for di next five years. E no go be easy but with dem teamwork mentality, we go fit tackle wetin dey come our way.
As di NLC dey plan to meet with other unions for education, dem don also send clear warning to government: do wetin you suppose do or face the power of united Nigerian workforce.
