NIS resumes receiving new passports applications in Oyo

By Oluwabukola Akanni

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Oyo State Command has announced the resumption of receipt of new passport applications in the state.

The command’s new controller, Safiya Mohammed, announced it on Tuesday in Ibadan during a broadcast by Usman Babangida, the outgoing controller.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the NIS has suspended new passport applications to help clear a backlog of applications received before May 17.

According to Mohammed, the command had started to receive new requests, in accordance with a directive from the comptroller general (CG) of the NIS, Mr. Muhammad Babandede.

“The agency had suspended new passport applications to eliminate the backlog of passport applications received.

“One of the priorities of the GC is the timely processing and delivery of passports to applicants.

“In fact, he told me to make sure the backlog was cleared; the order over the weekend worked overnight and we were able to produce over 3,000 passports from the backlog.

“This makes it possible to take care of new candidates; new applications started at midnight today (Tuesday), ”she said.

Mohammed thanked the outgoing Controller for the precedents he had set in command, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking man.

Previously, the former comptroller had praised Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as the heads of state security, for their support during his nine months of service in the state.

He also appreciated the officers and men in the command for their maximum support, saying that although his tenure in the state was short, it was “quite memorable”. (NAA)
