The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) don announce say from September 1, 2025, to get Nigerian Standard Passport go cost you wahala – N100,000 for 32-page wey valid for 5 years and N200,000 for the 64-page wey valid for 10 years. Ah, this one no be small matter o!
Dem release this gist on Thursday, signed by their Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi. Na only those wey go apply for passport inside Nigeria go carry this new fees o. If you dey abroad, you fit still enjoy the old price: $150 for the small booklet and $230 for the big one. Abeg, make I ask – wetin we go do if our pockets no fit carry this load?
NIS talk say dem need to raise the fees to keep the passport quality intact. (Abeg, no be just for our wahala dem dey think? Na so wahala dey increase, the fees too.) This hike come barely one year after dem make another increment last year. Remember say last year, 32-page wey be 5 years jump from N35,000 to N50,000, and the 64-page wey be 10 years move from N70,000 to N100,000. They say na to sustain the quality and improve service delivery. Na true?
And as the gist go, dem klarify say dis price hike no go affect Nigerians wey dey abroad. Na only people for Naija go see this increase. But who una feel say go fit afford this exorbitant fee? I dey reason say for some people, na so dem go dey drop the idea of traveling go anywhere, just because of this wahala.
How you see am? As the prices dey rise like balloon, our pockets dey deflate like pancake, but NIS says dem dey try make everything dey balanced.
