Nigerian govt files 7 terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu

The federal government has filed seven amended charges against the detained leader of the proscribed indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Maxwell Opara, one of Kanu’s attorneys, said so in a short interview with reporters at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to a report by The Punch, Mr. Opara was in court with Senator Ifeanyi Ubah to file a notice motion seeking an order granting him permission to visit Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services.

“The federal government has filed seven amended charges against Kanu,” he said without details.

The amended charges, which were filed by the Federation’s Attorney General’s Office and the Minister of Justice, border on the crime of treason and Kanu’s alleged involvement in acts of terrorism.

At the time of writing, details of the amended charges have yet to be made public to reporters by the Federation’s Attorney General’s Office and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Mr. Kanu will be brought to justice again before Judge Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday.
