Nigerian Army redeploys GOCs, top officers in major shake-up

The Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General. Faruk Yahaya approved the dispatch and appointment of senior Nigerian Army officers in an attempt to revitalize the service.

In a statement from the Director of Public Relations of the Army, Brigadier General. Onyema Nwachukwu in Abuja, those affected in the exercise include commanding general officers and other senior officers.

Mr. Nwachukwu revealed that Major General. Godwin Umelo had been transferred from the Defense Simulation Center to the Defense Headquarters, DHQ, and was appointed Director General of the Office of Defense Research and Development.

He also revealed that Major General. V Ebhaleme was appointed Director of Support Services in the Defense Space Administration while Major General. GB Audu moves to the Nigerian Army Resource Center as Principal Investigator.

Others, according to him, include the former Commander of Army War College Nigeria, Maj.-Gen. Solomon Udounwa, who had been appointed Chief of Special Services / Programs, Army, in the newly established Department of Special Services and Programs at Army Headquarters.

According to him, the major general. MT Durowaiye from the Department of Policies and Plans of the Army Headquarters moves to the Department of Administration of the Army Headquarters (Army) and is appointed Director of the Directorate of Veterans Affairs.

“Major-Gen. AE Attu moved from the Department of Policies and Plans of the Army Headquarters to Training and Defense Operations and was appointed Director of Peacekeeping Operations while Major General. UT Musa moves to Division 81 Headquarters as Commanding General Officer.

“Major-Gen. CU Onwunle had been appointed Director of DHQ Communications; Major-Gen. OO Oluyede moves to 6th Division Headquarters as Commanding General Officer and Major General. LT Omoniyi is moving to the Operations Department of the Army Headquarters as Director of Campaign Planning, ”he said.

Mr. Nwachukwu further revealed that Major General. OJ Akpor had been transferred from the Nigerian Defense Academy to Defense Headquarters as Director of Defense Information while Major General. Abdulwahab Eyitayo moved from the 7th Division to Defense Headquarters as Director of Campaign Planning.

He also said that while Major General. LA Fejokwu had been appointed Director of DHQ Standards and Evaluation, Maj.-Gen. JAL Jimoh was reassigned from the Nigerian Army Artillery School to Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, TRADOC, as Head of Training.

According to him, the major general. HT Wesley is transferred from the Office of the Army Chief of Staff to the Defense Intelligence Agency Headquarters and is appointed Director of Administration and General General. JO Ochai transfers to the Nigerian Army School of Armor as a Commander.

He added that Div. Gral. SG Mohammed was transferred from the 6th Division to the Department of Policies and Plans of the Army Headquarters as Deputy Chief of Policies and Plans, among others.

Other senior officers affected in the reorganization include; Brigadier General. AS Maikano, moving from the Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Plan to Division 82 and as Division Finance and Accounts Commander.

“Brigadier General. LA Lebo has been appointed Acting Deputy Chief of Training (Links / Integration) while Brigadier General. MO Ihanuwaze was appointed Director of Budget and Accounts (AHQ) and Brig.-Gen. Ojogbane Adegbe was appointed Director of Psychological Operations, AHQ Department of Civil and Military Affairs, ”added Nwachukwu.

The Army spokesman revealed that the Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General. Faruk Yahaya had commissioned all newly appointed senior officers to justify the trust placed in them and to redouble their commitment to duty.

According to him, the COAS also urged the newly appointed senior officers to ensure the addition of value in their respective commands.
