Nigeria Men’s Cricket Upbeat for Tri Series against Uganda, Kenya

The National Men’s Cricket Team has jetted out to Entebbe in Uganda on Thursday afternoon to honour a Tri Series with the national teams of Uganda and Kenya which get underway from Friday September 10, 2021.

The event which is the first international outing for the national team in close to two years owing to the pandemic, will see the new-look national team put to test.

Asanka Gurusinha, Nigeria’s foreign national Cricket Coach and High-Performance Manager who has re-jigged the constitution of the team believes that the character of the national team going forward will be different.

“The two teams we are playing are rated ahead of us and this being Nigeria’s first Tour in the last two years and the first that I am having with them as their head coach and High-Performance manager, I am really looking forward to it. I think everyone should expect surprises and more importantly, are going to be having fun” he said

The event also forms the team’s preparation programme ahead of the Men’s T20 African Qualifying Series billed for Rwanda later in November.

Nigeria’s team lineup includes: Joshua Ayannaike (C), Slyvester Okpe, Chimezie Onwuzulike, Isaac Okpe, Peter Aho, Vincent Adewoye, Daniel Ajekun, Jimoh Abdulrahman, Prosper Useni, Odion Isesele, Taiwo Mohammed, Sulaimon Runsewe, Mustapha Yusuf and Sesan Adedeji
Ayannaike the captain of the side alludes to the change in the composition of the team saying, he looks forward to how the team will handle these two oppositions.

“We are hoping to put our best out there in Uganda against the host and Kenya, we want to see what we are doing right and more importantly where we still need to work on as we continue to get in shape for the T20 World Cup Qualifier in November.”

The Tri Series will see each of the sides play as much as six games in ten days, Nigeria first match of the series is against Kenya on Saturday morning, 10:00am local time.
