Nigeria, Chad to partner on power interconnection –Minister

The Minister of Energy, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu, has assured the Nigerian Republic of Chad of continued interaction on electrical interconnection.

Mr. Odutayo Oluseyi, Deputy Director of Press, Ministry of Energy, in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday quoted Aliyu as saying this while receiving the Ambassador of Chad, HE Abakar Chahaimi, in his office.

According to the minister, Nigeria is committed to regional integration and is ready to revive the commitment to Chad.

He affirmed that the directors of the Ministry of Power with institutional memory of the commitments would initiate the interaction.

The minister recalled that Nigeria is geographically closer to Chad, shares culture and even marry each other than some other African countries.

“And as such, we must partner for the mutual benefit of both nations,” he said.

In addition, he stressed the need for collaboration between countries, especially in Africa, and stated that no nation can survive alone.

In previous statements, the Chadian Ambassador to Nigeria, HE Abakar Chahaimi, congratulated the minister on his appointment.

He chronicled previous commitments and interactions on the interconnection of power between the two countries, which he said did not culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

He requested that the proposed interconnection partnership be reopened, as both countries have the opportunity to benefit.

Speaking about the recent electricity interconnection between Chad and Cameroon ficed Bank, the ambassador said he expected the same with Nigeria taking into account African integration for development.
