2 Jonathan spoke when he addressed members of the 1981 group of the Port Harcourt University Alumni Association on Saturday, before the king of the Opume kingdom in the Ogbia local government area in Bayelsa, King Amalate Turner.
3 The Nigerian News Agency reports that Jonathan described the country as blessed with both human and natural gifts that can only be enjoyed in a peaceful atmosphere.
4 He urged leaders to focus more on building a united nation where no society or tribe should be more valued than the other.
5 “If the leaders derail, then surely there will be disunity and disenchantment from those who feel that they are not being accorded the respect and value they are due,” he said.
6 Jonathan, who is an alumnus and a member of Port Harcourt University’s pioneering graduating class of 1981, said the reunion program is part of alumni activities that aim to foster bonding between former classmates .
7 He said it is also a platform to deliberate on issues that affect his alma mater and give back to the school and society at large.
8 For his part, King Turner said it’s good to reunite his classmates after 40 years of separation.
