1 The federal government has approved COVID-19 booster vaccines as the world struggles to contain the new Omicron variant of the disease.

2 The spokesman for the National Agency for the Development of Primary Health Care, Mohammad Ohitoto, made this known in a statement on Friday.

3 Mr. Ohitoto explained that the booster injections were for people who had taken the first and second doses.sessions from AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer Bio-N-Tech, or a dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

4 Meanwhile, the agency’s chief executive, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said the booster doses were for people over the age of 18.

5 According to Mr. Shuaib, booster shots can be taken six months or more after receiving the second dose of the AstraZeneca, Moderna, or Pfizer Bio-N-Tech vaccines.

6 “It also requires a time interval of two months or more after receiving the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

7 “Therefore, eligible Nigerians are advised to go to the nearest health centers / mass vaccination centers across the country to receive the booster doses starting on December 10th.

8 “The booster dose of COVID-19 provides further protection against the virus, and I urge all Nigerians to seize the opportunity offered by the Federal Government,” he said.
