Abuja, Nigeria – The Niger Delta Peace Awareness Movement (NDPAM) don finally open mouth for the matter wey dey hot like pepper soup. Dem don reject the recent protest wey Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum organize for NNPC Towers, Abuja. According to NDPAM, the protest no be anything but politically motivated and na ethnic sentiments dey drive am. Wetin happen to unity, na? (Nigerians, we sabi anything wey concern politics, chai!)
On Thursday, Alhaji Awo H.D Amir, the National Leader of NDPAM, come launch dem response like say na government health insurance dey sweet am. E talk say the call to sack Bayo Ojulari, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), na just noise wey no get sense. “NNPCL na for everybody, no be only one region property,” Amir talk. Na so dem dey make dem self dey gist without facts. Dem don forget say na federal government dey run the company, abi dem dey think say na local government matter?
Amir no stop there. E continue to defend Ojulari, wey he talk say dey work hard to bring back those long-dormant refineries wey dey gree collect the rich crude oil. “Before Ojulari come, these refineries dey like seasonal planting, dem no dey function. Wetin dey happen now, if we dey blame Ojulari for everything, na him we go fit blame if rain no fall too?”
The NDPAM dey reason say instead of protest, young people for Niger Delta suppose think of beta way wey no involve blaming anybody. “Why youths no fit seize opportunities everywhere, climb federal and state agencies or even multinational companies wey dey provide jobs?” Amir dey ask with small sarcasm. E mean say, making noise no go be the solution. E no be naija style?
Amir no shy from the hot gist wey surround the protest. E talk say plenty of the protesters dey follow personal gain, no be about the region. “Are dem really looking for solution, or dem just wan collect money and wait for next opportunity to hammer microphone?” Na serious matter be this oh! (If only we fit channel all this energy for better cause, chai!)
D gist no finish yet. The coalition wey dey call demself Coalition of Niger Delta People for Development (CONFODEV) join am and dey back Ojulari with full chest. Dem talk say Ojulari don dey introduce beta changes, and na so corruption dey fight back. “Na only four months Ojulari don dey this position, but e don make changes wey dey boost crude oil production. Since he come, people no fit gree chill,” Comr. Iteveh Nurudeen Ekpokpobe, the head of CONFODEV, expose during press briefing. E no dey hide anything, dem sweet talks no fit hide the truth, right?
CONFODEV talk say the protests na joblessness and personal interests dey cost am. Dem advise Niger Delta youths to stop being pawns for people wey no get community interest at heart. “We need to rally behind our leaders and find solutions instead of using marches like say na carnival,” dem talk as dem escape jamboree mentality.
So, wetin we go take away from here? Protest no be the only way. Na time for Niger Delta youths to wise up, gather brain, and channel energy for productive ventures. E fit be harsh truth, but na the only way the region fit shine! Make everybody dey follow the correct course, and no dey play politics with life. We must be the solution wey we dey find. Time to rise na now!”
