The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has reiterated its commitment to partner with the Abia State Government to enhance infrastructural development.
Mr Olusola Adesola, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry pledged the commitment while speaking with journalists in Umuahia on Saturday at the end of a two-day inspection of projects in the state.
The Nigerian News Agency reports that the projects inspected included Ntigha-Umuopara Road, Psychiatric Hospital at Osisioma and Skills Acquisition Centre, Apumiri-Ubakala.
Others included the Skills Acquisition Centre, Owazza, Housing Estate, Umudobia and Obehie – Azumiri Road in Ukwa West Local Government Area.
Adesola said that the ministry would continue to give intervention to the state in line with its responsibility.
According to him, Abia is one of the nine oil producing states that constitute the members of the Niger Delta region.
“The state in that capacity receives special attention from the Federal Government in order to address some of the developmental challenges,” he said.
Adesola, who expressed happiness for the progress made by the contractors in project execution, said there were still areas that needed improvement.
He pledged the Federal Government’s support for the contractors whose projects were still ongoing in order to ensure completion.
Adesola lauded Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration for its developmental strides in the state and enjoined the government to do more for the people.
“What I saw in the state convinces me that the government is working.
I saw roads in many places. Virtually, all the places we went, the people were working. This is the best period to work.
“It is quite encouraging. It is our hope that we will continue to partner in many more areas in order to bring the dividend of democracy to the citizens,” he said.
