An indigenous sports company, Elrae Synergy Ltd, has launched“Nigeria Football Fan Challenge (NFFC), a television Game Show out to reward diehard Nigerian football fans by testing their knowledge of their favourite club sides.

NFFC Project Coordinator, Timi Ayeni, told journalists on Monday in Lagos that the football challenge would be in form of a game show which would be aired on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Supersport channels.

Ayeni said that the challenge was to reward football fans who had nothing to show for the various football clubs they were supporting.

According to him, diehard Nigerian football fans stand a chance to win a star prize of N12 million in a contest.

During the television show, football fans will be tested on their in-depth knowledge about their favourite clubs which includes six popular foreign clubs and major clubs in Nigeria.

The teams are, Manchester United, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, and Arsenal FC, (England), Real Madrid and Barcelona (Spain), while the indigenous clubs are Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan, Kano Pillars and Enyimba FC of Aba.

According to the organisers, football fans can participate in the weekly contest by sending a Short Message (SMS) 2230 to any of the communication networks – MTN, GLO, Airtel and 9Mobile.

The SMS, which will cost a N100 per sms, will include name, club they support and location.

There will be 50,000 randomly selected fans to participate in the auditioning after which the winners from the audition would be called for physical auditioning process where the last 54 finalists will emerge.

The overall winners would get a star reward of N12 million while others would also get huge cash prizes after the contest, organisers said.

“This is to reward the fans for their unalloyed support to various teams they queue behind. Sometimes, they have nothing to show for their support, but now, football is more business-like.

“We also plan to have the contest capture the society where the contestants come from. There is a part of the challenge called a NFFC Social impact that is focused on transforming people and the communities.

“The winners are expected to donate N5 million to their communities; they must have conceptualised the project that will benefit their communities before time.

“This initiative to us is a kind of building patriotism among the fans because the community project will be funded by the winners,” he said.

Nigeria’s ex-international, Victor Ikpeba, described the football challenge as a great initiative, adding that it was a replica of the popular television show, “Big Brother Nigeria.

“This is a laudable initiate through the organisers; this means that the football fans can have something to show for their support which they give freely before.

“Now, the fans will have it at the back of their minds that they can have reward for their supports which will make the game more competitive.

“Football brings everybody together, so I expect to see many young Nigerians key into this project,” Ikpeba said.

Ace Sport broadcaster, Charles Anazodo, said that football had changed the life of many Nigerians, adding that it was now a lifestyle for many.

“The effect will snowball into very good economic values which can take us to the next level,” Anzodo said.
