New TCN transmission region to boost economic activities in Kano -Official

By Constance Imasuen

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) claims to have created a new transmission region in Kano from the former Kaduna region.

This brings the number of TCN regional operations centers in the region to 10.

TCN’s Director General of Public Affairs, Ms. Ndidi Mbah, said so in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

She said that the establishment of the Kano Transmission Region has become necessary due to the rapid economic and industrial development seen in Kano State and surrounding areas.

“The Kano transport region has a sub-regional office and several work centers under its umbrella, all housing 13 transport substations (TS),” she said.

Mbah said the TS includes Kumbotso, Dan Agundi, Dakata, Tamburawa, Kwanar Dangora, Wudil and Kankia.

Others, according to her, are Katsina, Daura, Dutse, Hadejia, Azare and Gagarawa.

She said the New Kano region currently has transmission substation projects underway which, when completed, would further increase bulk transmission capacity in the new region.

Mbah said the transmission region will further improve operational efficiency in the region and allow TCN engineers to easily access and resolve technical issues in the new region.

“Prior to the creation of the region, important decisions had to be sent back to the Kaduna region for guidance, and the supply of materials was sometimes delayed due to Kaduna’s logistics,”

“The proximity to the new area would drastically reduce downtime and eliminate the time wasted when materials have to be brought in from the Kaduna area,” she said.

According to her, TCN is determined to continue to rehabilitate and expand its network in accordance with its rehabilitation and expansion plans. (NOPE)
