Louis van Gaal played down taking over Belgium’s job just one day after the Red Devils sat out the World Cup.
Van Gaal will step down as Oranje manager at the end of the year and Ronald Koeman will take over.
Roberto Martínez will be retiring from his role and after being asked about the role, Van Gaal joked that he will need to get his wife’s permission first.
“A transfer to Belgium? I’ve already thought about it,” he said before speaking about how he wasn’t surprised by Belgium’s early departure.
“I’m not surprised,” he said. “We also won twice against Belgium in the League of Nations.
“However, they have players around that I like a lot. But in my eyes, it’s always about the team. Look, they should have won yesterday and then they were through. But football is not just about technique and tactics. There is also luck involved.
“Belgium is a beautiful country, with very friendly people. Knokke is a beautiful beach palace. I’ve already thought about it, but then you have to convince my wife Truus, ”she laughed.
“I can always make free decisions. But I am working in the Netherlands here, we want to become world champions. There are still four games left, after that we will see if there are any offers. But I know that if we become world champions, there will be offers.”
