Justice Sidi Bage, the Emir of Lafia has urged  stakeholders to intensify efforts at tackling the spread of Lassa fever in Nasarawa State.

Bage made the call on Thursday in Lafia  during a sensitisation programme for traditional title holders on Lassa fever, organised by Lafia local Government and National Orientation Agency (NOA).

The Emir, represented by the Madakin Lafia, Alh. Isiaka Dauda, said Lassa fever was a test for human existence  that required  all hands on desk to address.

The Paramount ruler assured of  the traditional council’s readiness, both district and village heads to sensitise the public on the danger of the disease.

He therefore enjoined the people of the state to take preventive measure to guard against contracting the disease.

Aminu Maifata, Chairman, Lafia Local Government, represented by the Secretary of the council, Abukakar Mohammed-Lamino said that the authority of the council would do everything possible to halt the spread of the disease.

Maifata said the choice of the palace for the sentisatisation campaign was due to closeness to the people of the state.

On his part, Nasiru Ali, the chief diseases surveillance and notification officer of Lafia Local Government, advised people to promptly visit the hospital in the event of symptoms such as abdominal pain, bleeding, diarrhoea, nuseat, vomiting, chest and back pain.

Also speaking, Mr Alhatu Dalhatu, chief orientation and mobilisation officer of National Orientation Agency said that the campaign was necessary in order to halt the spread of Lassa fever in the state.

He called on the stakeholders to support the campaign by diseminating  information to the larger society.
