Nasarawa Govt seeks assembly’s approval to spend N8.3bn unutilizsed funds

NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly says the state government seeks its approval to adjust and spend unutilised and idle funds totaling N8.3 billion within the 2022 budget.

Alhaji Aliyu Dogara, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, disclosed this while addressing newsmen after a meeting with the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Daniel Agyeno and the state Accountant General, Mr Zakka Yakubu, in Lafia on Thursday.

Dogara explained that government aimed to spend the funds on other active areas for more Infrastructure development in some capital projects to improve on people’s lives
According to him, the adjustment is for unspent allocations to be spent on areas the money will be utilised.

” We had an interactive session with the State Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General regarding the 2022 amended appropriation bill sent to the House by His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for our consideration and approval.

“The essence of the meeting is for the government officials, that is the Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General, to make clarifications on the amended appropriation bill transmitted to the House by His Excellency.
” This is not a supplementary budget but an adjustment within the 2022 budget as the appropriation bill size remains the same, ” he said.
” The state government needs the House’s approval to adjust and spend idle N8.3 billion in some unutilided items.
” In the 2022 budget, there are some economic codes that have been exhausted, likely to be over spent before the end of the year.
” And there are also some items not used or utilised within the budget, hence the need for the proposed adjustment by the government.
The Chairman assured of the committee’s readiness to give the bill attention and speedy consideration, to enable the government to provide the much needed dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the House on Nov. 2, passed into first and second reading, a bill for a Law to Authorise the Issue Out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the state 2022 Amended Appropriation.
Nasarawa State Government
The amended appropriation which was about N110.8 billion, is for the services of Nasarawa State Government to complement for the period commencing from January 1 and Ending Dec.31.
Ibrahim Abdullahi
Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, announced the passage of the bill into first and second readings during the house proceedings in Lafia on Wednesday.
House Committee
The Speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for proper work and report back to the House on Nov. 7.
