NANS Warn Say Henry Okunomu No Be Their Senate President

Abuja, Nigeria — The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) don categorically deny claims from Henry Okunomu, wey talk say he be former Senate President of the association. For one statement wey dem release on Wednesday, the National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Comrade Adeyemi Ajasa, make am clear say Okunomu no ever hold that position at any time.

Okunomu don appear for Channels Television, where him claim say he bin be Senate President before. NANS rebuke this claim and say make the public no fall for any form of deception. ‘For the record, NANS dey state clearly say Mr. Henry Okunomu no fit ever hold the position of Senate President within our association,’ di statement talk.

Dem also discredit any talk wey say one Mr. Abubakr be di current president of NANS. According to di association, di only person wey dem recognize as di elected president na Comrade Olushola Oladoja. ‘We want to make am clear say Mr. Abubakr corn no be di President of di National Association of Nigerian Students. Di legitimate and duly elected President of NANS wey dey represent Nigerian students na Comrade Olushola Oladoja,’ dem add.

NANS express disappointment over di role of some media houses wey dey allow misinformation to circulate without verifying credentials of dia guests. ‘E dey very concerning say reputable media platforms go grant their platform to individuals wey dey spread falsehoods and dey try to damage di image of a strong organ like NANS,’ di statement reveal.

Di student body highlight say dem dey committed to due process, stating say leadership within di association na through constitutionally guided conventions with proper security protocols. ‘Aspiring leaders go through thorough processes wey involve obtaining forms, comprehensive screening, and other important steps well ahead of our conventions. Di idea say money fit bypass our established protocols and constitutional requirements na falsehood and also very insulting,’ Ajasa clarify.

NANS emphasize say dem na independent body, and no be part of any political party, government, or politician. ‘NANS na no arm of any political party, government, or politician at all. Dem further warn say no allow misuse of dia name for any political mouthing, insisting: ‘Make e dey clear say NANS go no tolerate anybody under any guise using di name of di association for blackmail or political tricks.’

Di statement conclude by urging media platforms to be more responsible in verification of claims and restate di association’s commitment to di protection of di rights and interests of Nigerian students. ‘We go continue to focus on our core mandate and go no be distracted by such antics,’ NANS promise.
