NAN partners National Troupe on unity, culture

Mr Buki Ponle, Managing Director of the News Agency of (NAN), said the agency will strengthen its collaboration with the Nigeria National Troupe by using culture to unite Nigerians.

Ponle said this on Wednesday when the artistic director / chief executive of the troupe, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed, visited the NAN headquarters in Abuja.

He said: “As I said earlier, strengthen our relationship and collaboration with you so that at the end of the day we can make Nigeria bigger than it is now.

“Well, we are going through this stage, we will overcome it and Nigeria will rebound I believe, we will not disintegrate, we will come together.

“We will use culture to bind Nigeria together because we have always been one and we will remain one in unity, joy, peace, progress and happiness,” he said.

The Director General assured the National Troupe to give it 100% coverage in all its activities as long as they were aimed at uniting the country and promoting the growth and development of the nation.

“We assure you that we will 100% cover all your activities, 100% collaboration in whatever you want us to do as long as it promotes the unity of Nigeria.

“It also promotes the growth and development of our country and gives meaning to humanity.

“When you talk to NAN, it’s like you’re talking to the whole world because we’re one stop,” he said.

According to him, the agency has a solid multimedia section that produces video and audio.

“We have the Feature department which encapsulates all of the activities that we want to have by going to places and reporting in a positive way,” said Ponle.

The chief executive said the agency plans to establish Solution Journalism Desk which will be launched soon.

According to him, solution journalism aims to get to the root of the cause and offers solutions.

“It’s not just for reporting. What are the consequences and where did such things lead us. What lessons have we learned, sharing all these lessons and following through to the end.

“It’s not just a report, we follow it through and come up with solutions.

“We will ensure that we have a positive impact on society and on people in the community or region the report is focused on,” he said.

According to him, the agency is going to start a gigantic project, that’s where your organization comes in.
“We want to document all the heritage sites in the country, although it has been done, but it has not been done by NAN.

“We wanted to do it about ten years ago but one or two things had happened but we are going to relaunch the project now.

“We are going to visit all the heritage sites in the country, compile them in the form of video, text and telegraphy.

“And since your organization is part of it, they will visit you to work with you,” said the CEO.

He recalled that the NAN was created by law in 1976 and began its operations on September 1, 1978 with the mandate to project the image of Nigeria, West Africa and the continent.

He said the agency started operations by setting up offices across the country and 14 offices outside the country.

Earlier, Mohammed said his visit was aimed at strengthening the collaboration of the national troop on the dissemination of information.

“I’m here to strengthen collaboration primarily on news delivery because NAN has proven to be one of the pillars that really brings the world to us on a global scale.

“Anytime you address the world and any other media buys you is always in the country. So, we are also part of the package that they need to be sold outside the world.

“It is important for people to know that this country has a national troop that can represent this country in any forum in order to appreciate our culture,” he said. (NAA)
