Alhaji Ahmed Hassan, the Yakanaje of Uke Emirate in Nasarawa State, has conferred a traditional title of ‘Kaigama’ to Dr Samson Adegoke, Head of Finance and Account, Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

The monarch made this known in a letter conveying the offer of the chieftaincy title to Adegoke, dated July 31, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Keffi.

The emir said the conferment of the title on Adegoke was in recognition of his sterling qualities of honesty, integrity and contributions toward improvement of services at the Federal Medical Centre.

Hassan described Adegoke as a philanthropist who was always concerned about the plights of the less privilege in the society.

“Alhaji Ahmed Hassan, the Yakanajie of Uke Emirate is excited to bring you on board as the Kaigama of Yakanajie.

“The decision was informed due to your numerous engagements and contributions toward the improvement of services at the federal medical centre, Keffi and Nasarawa State in general.

“On the strength of that, the emirate congratulates you and hope that you will continue to uphold these sterling qualities of honesty, dedications and hard work,’’ the monarch said.

Responding, Adegoke thanked the Yakanajie Uke Emirate for finding him worthy to be conferred with such prestigious title, assuring that he would be a good ambassador of the emirate.

Reacting to the development, Alhaji Mohammad Idris, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Keffi chapter, said Adegoke deserved to be conferred with such prestigious title for his support to the youth and the less privileged in the society.

Idris said that Adegoke had touched several lives positively and has been doing so much for the people of Keffi, Uke, Lafia and Karu Local Government.

“Adegoke has assisted so many people around him even though he is not blowing his trumpet,’’ the youth leader said.

Insecurity: NAF trains 219 Special Forces in Bauchi

Published

on

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inaugurated training for another batch of 219 Special Forces (SF) personnel and graduated 24 rappellers to boost internal security operations in the country.

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, made this known at the inauguration of the special forces and graduation of the Intermediate Rappelling Course 7/2020 on Friday in Bauchi.

According to him, the course is the seventh of such training programmes by the current NAF administration, and the first to be conducted at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Annex, Bauchi.

Abubakar said that out of the 357 personnel drafted for the special forces course, only 219 would undergo the training as 24 rapellers graduate.

The CAS, represented by the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC GTC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Idi Amin, added that the NAF Special Forces’ training was borne out of the need to ensure robust defence of Nigeria’s territory.

He said “as part of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, NAF is constitutionally obligated to protect the lives and property of Nigerians, so that they can go about their legitimate businesses unhindered.

“Currently, NAF is recording significant successes in the fight against insurgency in the North- East, as well as against banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling in the North West and North-Central parts of the country.

“In order to consolidate on the gains made so far, the Force recently activated the 203 Combat Reconnaissance Group, Gombe, for enhanced capability in providing timely and actionable intelligence to contain insecurity.”

Abubakar said that the training of selected Regiment personnel as Special Operations Force elements had become even more crucial.

“This is in line with the practice of modern air forces around the world, which now deploy specially-trained ground forces to provide situational awareness for aircrew, thereby reducing collateral damage and enhancing safe conduct of air operations,” he said.

The Air Force boss added that this informed the establishment of the Special Operations Command, with Headquarters in Bauchi, as well as Quick Response Groups/Wings in Gusau, Owerri, Ipetu-Ijesa, Katsina, Birnin-Gwari, Gembu, Agatu and Lafia, among others.

According to him,  SF capabilities hold great importance to military operations worldwide.

“They are capable of operating in all types of terrain and weather conditions to achieve favourable resolution of security threats,” he noted.

Abubakar charged them to be prepared to put in their best and draw on every ounce of determination and resilience in them to excel.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting NAF toward providing highly skilled and professional manpower to meet the Air Force’s operational requirements.

The chief of air staff also inaugurated 10 one-bedroom flats for non-commissioned officers and the Bauchi NAF Base to ease their accommodation problem.

Earlier, the Acting Commandant, Regiment Training Centre Annex, Bauchi, Sqn. Ldr. Using Jantika, said 357 Regiment, Intelligence and Personnel, were nominated for the Special Forces screening.

He explained that “on completion of medical screening for the Special Forces, 111 were reported to be medically unfit for engagements, 18 voluntarily withdrew from the course and nine failed to report due to service exigencies.”

He noted that only 219 personnel comprising 14 officers and 205 airmen/airwomen were successful, while 28 Special Forces instructors were nominated for the Intermediate Rappelling Course.

Military‘ll hunt Darul Salam terrorists group into extinction soon- DHQ

Published

on

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the military with its aggressive clearance operations will push the Darul Salam Terrorists group into extinction in no distant time in the country.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, said this while fielding questions from newsmen at the weekly update on the operations of Armed Forces on Friday in Abuja.

Enenche said that the military was working relentlessly with all stakeholders to put an end to the operations of the group in the northern part of the country.

He said that the Defence Headquarters had determined to deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic means to rid the nation of the group and other forms of criminal elements.

He recalled that no fewer than 410 members of Darul Salam Terrorists group surrendered to the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke during an encounter at Uttu in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State in August.

He said the terrorists who surrendered following an aggressive operations by troops and other security agencies at identified criminals’ enclaves included women and children.

“The group, I can assure you that in no distant time, will go into extinction.

“We are putting pressure on them, as all hands are on deck and we are getting good information; and we are tracking them with those that are suspected to be collaborators that fence them.

“So that is where we are now, and like I always say it is not always good for me to say this where they are or not, or to tell you that we are sending troops to anywhere, but we are on top of it.

“We are not assuming at all, because it is a group that their own motivation is based on ideology and most thing that is difficult to kill kinetically is ideology. So ideology can be defeated by all stakeholders, particularly those that speak to their conscience, that speak and touch their mind.

“I can assure you that all stakeholders are working together, particularly our religious partners in this regards, they are now sensitizing the general public to believe in the core religious practices and follow them, so that is what we are doing.

“We are not leaving any stone unturned, we are following aggressively, getting every information and we are getting good support,” he said.

He, therefore, appealed for more understanding and cooperation from Nigerians to enable the military win the war against terrorism.

He commended the public for its cooperation in providing credible information which has so far facilitated the successes of operations’ across the country.

He therefore sued for sustained military and civil cooperation, while also stressing the need for proactive and timely information to enable troops nip threats to security in the bud.

He vowed the readiness of the Armed Forces to sustain the momentum of on-going operations, until victory was attained.

“This is very necessary for enhancement of operational activities.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria assures that these offensives against the common enemies of this nation will not cease until normalcy is restored to all the troubled zones of the country,” he said.
