Milan Ready to Battle Genoa as Jovic Debates Loom

BOLOGNA, ITALY – May 5, 2025 – AC Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao has announced his starting lineup for the crucial Serie A match against Genoa. The Rossoneri aim to secure a win not only to please their fans but also to gain momentum ahead of the Coppa Italia final. Both teams are currently locked in their positions, with Milan sitting in ninth and Genoa in 13th.

While Milan celebrated a recent victory against Venezia, Conceicao has confirmed that Emerson Royal and Luka Jovic are available for selection, though they have faced fitness challenges. Unfortunately, the coach also revealed that Riccardo Sottil and Warren Bondo will miss tonight’s clash due to muscle issues.

For the match, Conceicao has opted for a three-man defense consisting of Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia, and Alex Jimenez, with Mike Maignan in goal. The wing-backs will be Alex Jimenez and Theo Hernandez, while Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders will serve as the midfield duo. Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will play as wingers, supporting returning center-forward Luka Jovic, who is crucial after recently sitting out a game.

The confirmed Milan lineup in a 3-4-2-1 formation is as follows: Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Jimenez, Fofana, Reijnders, Hernandez; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek; Jovic. On the bench, they have Sportiello, Torriani, Florenzi, Terracciano, Walker, Thiaw, Bartesaghi, Musah, Leao, Camarda, Chukwueze, Gimenez, Joao Felix.

On the Genoa side, coach Patrick Vieira is looking to shake things up as they seek redemption after previous setbacks. They will likely feature a 4-2-3-1 setup, with goalkeeper Leali supported by a defense of Sabelli, De Winter, Vasquez, and Martin. Captain Frendrup will lead the midfield alongside Masini, while the attacking trio is expected to include Thorsby, Messias, and Zanoli, with Andrea Pinamonti as the central striker.

The official Genoa XI is: Leali; Sabelli, De Winter, Vasquez, Martin; Frendrup (c), Masini; Thorsby, Messias, Zanoli; Pinamonti. Their substitutes include Siegrist, Sommariva, Matturro, Otoa, Sabelli, Bani, Ahanor, Badelj, Kassa, Venturino, Vitinha.

Tonight’s match kicks off at 19:45 BST and can be viewed live in the UK via OneFootball. In the USA, fans can catch the action on Paramount+, while FuboTV will feature the game in Canada and BeIN Sports in Australia.
