On January 10, 2022, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andris Pelšs, received accreditation visits from the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, Francisco Alberto Caraballo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ahmed Adel Sobhy Ahmed. The Secretary of State congratulated the Ambassadors on their accreditation in Latvia and invited them to take advantage of the opportunities to promote bilateral relations with Latvia.
In a meeting with the Dominican Ambassador, Andris Pelšs expressed interest in continuing to work on the signing of bilateral agreements and advance cooperation in the smart technologies sector. The Secretary of State presented Latvia’s initiatives at the United Nations and focused on promoting further cooperation in this organization and others. Francisco Alberto Caraballo is the first Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Latvia. The Ambassador resides in Berlin. Diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic were established on August 15, 2001.
In a conversation with the Rwandan Ambassador, Andris Pelšs stressed the need to strengthen political dialogue and economic cooperation, as well as to expand the legal framework. The Ambassador expressed his desire to explore Latvia’s experience in the field of information and communication technologies and appreciated the interest of Latvian companies. Cooperation between the two countries at the United Nations and other organizations was also discussed. The Ambassador resides in The Hague. Diplomatic relations with Rwanda were established on April 10, 2007.
Meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador, the Secretary of State praised the active political dialogue and expressed satisfaction with the good relations between the two countries. Andris Pelšs reaffirmed that Latvia is ready to expand contacts in education, science and economics, especially in the information and communication technology sector, as well as to continue cooperation in the food processing and wood industries. The promotion of cooperation in international organizations was also discussed. Officials indicated that this January 23 would mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Latvian Embassy operates in Egypt since 2007, with Ilmārs Breidaks as current Ambassador. The Egyptian ambassador resides in Stockholm.
