– Regardless of the temperatures that December will bring, 2022 is on track to be the hottest year in France since records began, the French national weather service Meteo France said on Wednesday.
He said the average temperature for the whole year would exceed 14.2 degrees Celsius.
The heat waves that ravaged France this summer caused an additional 2,816 deaths compared to the records of the last five years, France’s public health agency said in early November.
In 2022, sweltering heat has come on top of a severe drought across much of the country, Meteo France said.
Annual rainfall this year is expected to be up to 25 percent lower than normal, it added. ■
