Melbourne Demons forward Kysaiah Pickett faces suspension over late hit on Western Bulldogs star Bailey Smith
Melbourne Demons forward Kysaiah Pickett is set to face suspension over a late bump on Western Bulldogs star Bailey Smith. The incident took place in the second quarter of the blockbuster clash at the MCG on Saturday night, where Pickett appears to leave the ground and make contact with Smith’s head after he disposes of the ball.
Bulldogs players immediately remonstrated with Pickett, including midfielder Jack Macrae, with the umpire paying a down-field free kick and the WA product was reported on the spot.
Smith, who weighs 13kgs more than Pickett at 86kg, compared to 73kg, brushed off the hit and remained on the ground.
Depending on the findings of the Match Review Officer, Pickett could face the first suspension imposed in the 2023 season after both matches on Thursday and Friday took place without incident.
Former Carlton defender Liam Jones was ruled out of his first match back at the club he was drafted to at halftime. The Dogs subbed him out with “a knock to the neck” and with substitute Toby McLean was brought on.
