  The ECOWAS Commission is convening an expert meeting on the implementation of ECOVISA from 11 13 October 2022 in Abuja Nigeria The meeting which is held in compliance with the mandate of the ECOVISA Working Group is to allow the latter to present its report and the recommendations of the study for validation by the Experts of the Member States The meeting is also an opportunity to discuss other emerging issues related to the implementation of ECOVISA such as the validation of the terms of reference for the contracting of competent local service providers to develop the technology to be used for ECOVISA The recommendations of this Expert Meeting will be taken forward for adoption at the highest level The 3 day meeting will bring together experts in charge of visa issuance experts in charge of visa control at points of entry as well as participants from the ECOWAS Commission and GIZ AUBP For reference the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government directed the ECOWAS Commission to develop the modalities for the smooth implementation of ECOVISA for Migrants from third countries In fulfillment of this mandate the ECOWAS Commission in collaboration with GIZ AUBP launched a study on modalities for the harmonization of Visa procedures and processes in the ECOWAS region An ECOVISA working group was established and a series of expert meetings with experts from Burkina Faso Benin C te d Ivoire Ghana Guinea Bissau Federal Republic of Nigeria and Senegal were held in April 2022 to review the results of the studio This meeting of experts is therefore to ensure the final validation to pave the way for the implementation of ECOVISA
