Mr. Yahaya said this when he received Sun Publishing Ltd. Managing Director / Editor-in-Chief Onuoha Ukeh and his management team at Army Headquarters on Thursday in Abuja.
He said that the support and sacrifices of the media in the fight against insurgency and banditry were well known and highly appreciated.
He called for continued media support for the military’s efforts as part of its patriotic duty.
According to him, publicizing the operations of the troops will undoubtedly boost the morale and the will to fight of the troops.
COAS said insurgents and bandits thrived on the publicity they receive from a section of the media, adding that if media publicity was denied their activities, 59 percent of the military’s work would have been done.
Earlier, Sun Publishing Ltd. CEO Ukeh praised the Nigerian military for its efforts and sacrifices to eradicate terrorism, banditry and various violent crimes in the country.
Ukeh said the COAS command style and synergy with sister services and other security agencies had changed the dynamics of military operations.
He noted that the efforts remain obvious, especially in the northeast, where elements of Boko Haram fighters were surrendering to troops en masse.
Mr. Ukeh promised continued support and collaboration of the newspapers with the army.
